Big Top Chautauqua

Lots of national and regional music performances — under a big top tent on the grounds of Mt. Ashwabay just south of Bayfield at the end of Ski Hill Road! Experience great music at Big Top Chautauqua, without choking on cigarette smoke — as you enjoy the cool outdoor breezes. Beer— the Berghoff Solstice on tap is very good — soda, wine, burgers, brats, ribs and other items are served and can be consumed while you are watching the show. We think Big Top Chautauqua bratwurst is the best we've ever tasted.

Madeline Island

You never know when you might get a special music treat on the island. Music sometimes just happens.... As well as theater, movie screenings, etc... Be sure to check events listings!

Tom’s Burned Down Cafe - Not a cafe really, but it WAS burned down. A Madeline Island icon. Ask an islander for the story. Tom is a true philosopher, as the hand-painted signs scattered around the bar prove. Islanders, visitors, dogs and children can be found at Tom's during the day and early evening. Later on there is music, live usually on weekends, and the crowd gets rowdy and fun. A must-see if you visit the island! In 2015 the Lip-Sync contests have been an extra treat.

Bell Street Gallery Music in the Art Bar, and sometimes out front on summer evenings.

Madeline Island Music Camp  This exceptional music camp provides chamber music training and performance for talented young musicians in a structured, residential environment. Its curriculum offers a program devoted exclusively to the study and performance of chamber music, with distinguished faculty and resident string quartets and woodwind quintets from across the nation. During the June/July season the camp offers public performances by faculty, and by students, both in Bayfield and on the island. There's also an opportunity to listen in at master classes. A special treat for music lovers!
