Apostle Islands National Lakeshore Site for Monitoring Meyers Beach Ice Cave Status
We are the closest lodging establishment to the ice caves accessed at Meyers beach. The last time the ice caves were open to walk to was in 2014.
The cabin sleeps 2 people on a queen size bed.
While extra people could be accommodated ($28/day plus tax for each person) - prior approval and communcation is required. There is a non pullout leather sofa and 5 foot long chaise lounger that two kids could sleep on. The other option would be use of a blow up mattress in the iiving room.

Little Sand Bay beach is just 2 miles away - and Cornucopia beach is really nice. (You can buy fresh whitefish and smoked whitefish and trout and whitefish livers at Halvorson’s green building just down from the artesian water supply in Cornucopia.)
Bringing your dog? Dogsenter in Washburn will watch your furry friend while you enjoy touring the area. Prices start at $6/hour. There are add-ons such as walks and bathing while you are away and have a variety of dog food.
— Auroras are spectacular here! So many aurora’s in late 2025 so far and there should be many more auroras in early 2026.
The cabin is close to Meyer’s Beach Trail - one of the best hiking trails in Wisconsin that overlooks the sea caves / ice caves!
In the spring, daffodils, lupin, and other types of flowers are in the yard There are many birds near the cabin from blue jays to cardinals and woodpeckers and hummingbirds and more, and you can occasionally see a bald eagle flying in the area.
Bring your own folding chairs to have a seat around the fire pit in the front yard or use a big log to sit on.
Look up at night to see millions of stars in the sky at night, satellites, and an occasional aurora.
ECO FRIENDLY:
The cabin is heated and cooled with geothermal energy and also solar power shares purchased from the energy cooperative (large solar arrays.) So - we have a zero carbon footprint. The cabin has super insulated walls and ceiling and super high energy efficient windows among many other eco-friendly features. Hauser’s Bayfield Cabin has been awarded the “Travel Green” Certification for lodging by Travel Wisconsin.
WINTER AT THE CABIN:
During holiday season - inside the cabin is an array of beautiful holiday decorations - from Christmas wreath, to poinsettia, and small Christmas tree - with a variety of inside holiday lights. Light up the wood stove and turn on the Holiday and New Years’s music to have the best romantic time ever!
